EnCirca Cuts .Pro Prices

BOSTON — To celebrate the re-launch of the .Pro domain name, EnCirca is offering discounted .Pro domain names on a first-come, first-served basis.

The promo pricing runs $49 per year for the first year of each new registration.

According to a company release, for the first time, licensed and credentialed professionals from anywhere in the world will be eligible to register dot-pro domain names — which were previously restricted to accounting, engineering, legal and medical professionals.

The new registration rules go into effect on Monday, Sept 8, 2008.

"The dot-pro land rush is first-come, first-served, which means all licensed professionals can grab their brand name in advance of the re-launch in September," EnCirca president Thomas Barrett said. "There has never been a better time for professionals to secure their online identity with a dot-pro domain name."

The dot-pro TLD works like any other TLD, such as dot-com and is, according to EnCirca, "already universally recognized on the Internet as the premium space for licensed professionals."

"We are thrilled to finally be able to offer the dot-pro domain to licensed professionals from around the globe," RegistryPro general manager Catherine Sigmar said. "We are expecting enormous interest in the dot-pro domain with this expansion and we are pleased to be able to meet the needs of the market with this offering."

There will no longer be any restrictions on the types of names a qualified business or licensed professional may register, including industry keywords, search engine terms, company names, or their trademarks. There is no limit to how many dot-pro domain names an individual or company can register.

According to the company, EnCirca was formed in 2001 and is accredited by the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and is the leading ICANN-Accredited registrar for the dot-pro domain, operated by RegistryPro, "a domain name registry exclusively for professionals who wish to brand and promote themselves on the Internet."
